Kodehi and collaborators (2018) have recently showed that AKAP4 expression is significantly correlated with liver metastasis in colon cancer patients. Therefore AKAP4 may have a potential as a pronostic biomarker in colon cancer.
Cancer testis antigens (CTA) are an expanding family of tumor-associated antigens that have an highly tumor restricted expression pattern and a strong immunogenicity. Initially identified as an aberrantly expressed CTA in multiple myeloma primary cells (Chiriva-Internati et al. 2008), the AKAP4 expression has been demonstrated in various malignancies such as breast cancer (Saini et al. 2013), epithelial ovarian cancer (Agarwal et al. 2013), cervix cancer (Agarwal et al. 2013 ; Kumar et al. 2017), multiple myeloma (Chiriva-Internati et al. 2012), prostate cancer (Chiriva-Internati et al. 2012), in colon cancer (Jagadish et al. 2015 ; Jagadish et al. 2016 ; Tavakoli Koudehi et al. 2018) and non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) (Mirandola et al. 2015 ; Mirandola et al. 2016).
